I don't normally get into religion/politics on my photoblog, but as a future engineer, one who observes and studies the natural and scientific world, I can't help but comment on the recent decision by the Kansas Board of Education to teach "Intelligent Design" along with the theory of evolution. Not only am I appalled by the utter ignorance of those in the scientific community, but I am also bewildered as to why, even from a humanistic perspective, both sides should not be presented in the search for truth. Is that not what we as scientists are after, anyway?
Observing nature, it is very easy to see a hierarchy of beings, from microscopic organisms, to bugs, to animals, and finally humans. Is it so hard to immagine that there might be someone in another dimension of time and space who is somewhat if not signficantly more intelligent than us in this nearly infinite universe in which we exist?
An intelligent creator is not only possible, but in my opinion the obvious choice, scientifically. The theory of evolution goes against the very principles of science, as does the supression of the search for knowledge and truth. Scientists go on about mind-boggling theories of bending space and time, teleportation, and wormholes, but yet can not grasp the simple concept of an intelligent creator of this infinitely and increasingly complex universe.
I realize that many, if not most, in the artistic world will strongly disagree with me in this area, as will many of my readers. Feel free to comment on either the photo or the topic at hand, and while I'm always game for a good discussion, I don't have the time for a long debate. Might I suggest any comments about Intelligent Design be posted on my blog entry.
Our family is leaving today for a weekend trip to a canyon or two in southern Arizona. My brother just got a Rebel XT, and I have rented the 70-200 f/2.8L for the weekend, so hopefully we will return with many good photographs.

ID: Yeah, its been kinda humorous reading all the pointless proofs of evolution on Ars Technica and Slashdot recently. 99% of the people there believe they know what true science is, and 1% are classified as flamebait.

This scene is very reminiscent of my childhood growing on a ranch in western SD ... golden rolling prairie, puffy white clouds set in blue sky, and a black cow looking for a way to escape to the next pasture! Great memories!! Thanks.

i really like this wide shot and the cow at the bottom really make the composition better. the deep blue sky with flare kinda adds in the effect for the take. very well composed. love it very much.
