Today's photo has the same theme as yesterday's, but with different composition. If you haven't seen yesterday's, I reccomend checking it out as it's my favorite of the two...probably because of the abstractness and DOF, even though this one has more substance.

The "narrow passage" obviously reffers to the narrow gap between the two leaves, but also the narrow depth of field...increased blur as your eyes move away from the center. The DOF on this photo is larger than yesterdays, and as a result the paterns in the leaves are more visible. The desired effect was reached in both photos.

It would have been so much cooler if the background had been black similar to yesterday's, but since yesterday's photo was shot closer to the subject, the background area is much smaller. The harsher, midafternoon lighting allowed me to shoot the first photo with the shadow of another house covering the entire background, which came out essentially black. I'd like to try this shot again in a studio environment someday...

yeah i like yesterdays better, but theyre both good. you could make the background black by putting dark paper under the leaves, which works quite well. :)

Under? Perhaps behind, and even then you'd still have the effects of the sunlight on the "black" paper. Thanks for the idea though.
