My mother spends much of her time on the phone due to the nature of the her business. My dog, Felix (a havanese) loves to follow her around the house.
I doubt she was taking business this time, as this was actually taken Christmas morning. Having received my 100mm macro the prior evening, this is one of the first shots taken with my new lense. I was trying to find a decent photo to post as my last b&w of the series and came across this relatively pointless looking photo while going through my archives. It's amazing what a little desaturation can do. This one is actually a slight sepia, though the difference is hardly noticeable from the previous several days. You can expect color tomorrow! ;)
Note: I have made a wallpaper for May 6th.

Great use of backlight, I love this one a lot.....

Nice soft silhouette shot Ryan - works well because of the soft light around the edges.

nice shot! a difficult one to pull off well, and you did a great job.

Tremendous lighting. This is such a warm portrait, so nicely done.

Excellent. Such a simple everyday thing, talking on the phone, but the dog makes it interesting, and it's so candid. Great lighting too, as everyone else has said. The backlighting isn't overexposed, and you still get the detail in the face (most importantly) and the dog, which is great.
I like these more human photographs :) I look forward to color, though.

Good capture and exposure in that light.

This is very nice Ryan! I think the formal window frame sets the near silhouette off very nicely. I'm quite happy for you to stay in black and white. I think you work well when you set yourself challenges like this.

Once again I have to say that this is my favorite photo you've done. It is so simple and clean. The lighting and large window backdrop could not be any better. This feels very balanced and symmetrical. Most important, I simply enjoy it.
Great job, Ryan!

this is very cool, great idea and good job with the light

just amazing. certainly, it's on your top-five photos if not the best. Good backlight photos are hard to do -at least for me- but you did a great job here, keeping some details around the edge of the silhouettes.

I love this shot~~

Great silhouette. It's good that the dog is lit a bit more evenly--otherwise it'd be hard to tell what it is. Great work!

The picture has a good connection with the subject-- nice character study.

This is so good! I like it very much. Seems like your mother really enjoyed talking on the phone and have you taking her photograph. Haha!

Beautiful silhouette...this picture has some magic...some mistery and a beautiful, poetic, mood.
