Well, since yesterday's b&w was so popular, I thought I'd give it another go. Using channels at almost 200% negative blue, 200% positive red, and almost 200% positive green, after which I applied some levels, I was able to extract the dramatic clouds from an almost cloudless sky. This also explains the halo effect.
I think I like the geometry in this one a little better, but the sky and lighting is better in the first. The second one is almost an optical illusion, bringing the top right corner towards the center...skewing the perspective.
Anyways, so I'm really running dry; either that or perhaps I've set the standard too high for myself. I've got photos to post, it's just that there not very good...or at least not as good as they should be. Maybe I'm trying to grow too fast. I will admit that I'm not spending enormous ammounts of time every single day either shooting, post-processing, or commenting like I used to. Instead of all day, now only several hours a day...
Oh, and as some of you might have noticed I have now completey converted over all of the thumbnails in my archive to squares. It's harder than it sounds...trust me. So that should clean up the archive pages a bit.

Great job with this shot. I like the dark bars. The clouds in the background look great.

Interesting of how you make use of channel mixer to extract the bits from the sky. I like http://photo.ryanrahn.com/single/index.php?x=sky_geometry geometry more. :)

post-processing b&w - to me - is extremly tricky. it seems you've mastered it!

Elemental!
Hard steel, immovable, solid... fluid, liquid sky, like vapor, transient.
