Having moved in to a new house in October we don't have much in our back yard but dirt...well, that was untill the weeds showed up. And then the rain came. Well you get the picture. Anyways, the past week we have been clearing the weeds and grass. What does this have to do with the picture. Well...it is of one of the soon to be gone plants I guess.
I'm not entirely happy with the post-processing, but I have a paper due, and a test tomorrow, in addition to finals rapidly approaching, so my apologies. I still think it is a neat effect: the way the light catches the top of the grass, etc.
I also find the background distracting. This photo could have benefited from a larger aperture. Sadly, this is the smallest this lense goes. I hope to get an f/1.4 or f/1.8 soon...well, at least in the next year.
Caterpiller shots either tomorrow or Thursday. I wanted to show you where I found him first...and that, I now remember, is the purpose of this shot...sorta.

You meant larger aperture, right? (And a smaller f-number)
This photo is awesome and I love how the light catches the top part, giving it a brialliant glow.

Thar's catapillars in them thar weeds.... ok, no seriously, It's not a bad photo really...the lighting is awesome, but you are right, the backround is a bit distracting. Good work ;)

I disagree. The background is as rich to me as the light on the weed. Perhaps it would benefit from some noise reduction (or more if you've already done that) but that's as picky as I can get about this photo. I keep coming back to study it and that says it all.

excellent light, I like it ryan, even the background.

I think the background is good, but to me it looks like the grass is slightly oversaturated (in the shadow). That just might be my screen though :P
I love the backlit edges.

Lighting definately does the trick here. Nice pic.

Hey Ryan...I have enjoyed your past several shots. I was out of town and crazy busy lately so I haven't made it around, so instead of commenting on each photo I say..."Great shots!" :)

Great way to take a simple subject and make it art.

I like the background. The simple beauty of the golden grass shines through chaos of the background in a quiet, but triumphant sort of way. oh dear . . . now I'll have to blame you if I run off and write a sappy poem about grass. :^P lol. anyway, I love the picture just as it is. imperfection often makes a subject more perfect.
