This shot as well as the several following was inspired by Jens Peters over at noname photography. This is the first of a set of two or three golf course images. I took tham about a month shy of a year ago, so just mere jpegs ;). I don't golf myself; just along for the pictures. This was taken at a golf course in the Arizona mountains (near Show Low, Arizona) during a weekend trip to escape the mid-July, 110+ Arizona heat.

There is obviously some processing to this shot. I wanted to give it that oversaturated, dreamy, other-world kind of feel, while still retaining its realism. This image, as well as the several follwing, were processed in the same manner: the original image layer is duplicated, then a curves ajustment layer added. These two new layers are put into a folder who's blending property is set to overlay. The opacity of the additional layers are then adjusted to create the disired amount of effect.

In other varriations of this process I applied varrying amounts of Gaussian blur to the duplicated image layer in order to soften the image giving it a dreamy look while still retaining most of the sharpness (since the blurred layer's blending mode is essentially set to overlay some of the original image is still visible). But since the images already had a processed feel to them, I felt that the blur was unneeded. If anyone is interested, I can make a blured version available upon request. Oh, and sorry about the title; I'm just not very creative when it comes to naming myphotos.

I'm sure some of you may think I'm crazy, but I thought I'd try something new...mostly a postprocessing experiment; and because I haven't done any shooting in the past several days, and consequently I am forced to pull stuff from my archives. I'm sure many of you know the feeling. ;) Enjoy!

Of course I know your feeling of not being able to shoot any new photos. ;)

Is there anr cropping or this is a stiched panorama photo? The effect is quite good. Maybe you can consider sell this picture to the Golf Club as advertisement. Haha!

Hey Ryan, this really works well. I love the saturated greens. You pulled off the effect beautifully.

"In a little place called perfect, the golf courses are always green..."Sorry reminded me of a Walgreen's commercial :) Very well done!

oversaturated, dreamy, other-world kind of feel - CHECK!

This is great man. I'm really partial to shots that have these dimensions too. Not sure what it is, maybe it's like a movie theatre thing, I dunno.

Your post processing techniques are awesome, did you use any resources in order to learn these? or just pretty much messing around you found out what works and what doesn't?

Great work as always, Ryan.

You'd probably like golf. I enjoy hitting balls every once in a while. I like the picture. Very interesting...

Surreal and somewhat psychedelic and yet, almost like those hand-coloured tints from the 50s!

Am I the only one who is stuck thinking about Caddyshack when looking at this?

I used to play competitive golf before I had my back problems. This image brings back some great memories. This shot has a great feel to it. It's almost as if I'm looking at my memories on the monitor. Very well done.

I too don't "get" golf. I played only once - with no prep - and my friend's wedding last October. I found that I have the stature for it. Being 6'2 with long arms, I was able to drive the ball 320+ yards after the first nine. Unfortunately those 320 yards were hooking and slicing all over the course, but still.

It IS nice to see a pano. Seems like so long since I've done one myself. I like the saturation burst. It adds a surreal quality that is very much in line with my impression of glof courses - these perfectly manicured oasis in the midst of whatever may surround them.

You just explained how I've been processing alot of my shots lately! Cool....I love that pushed color, dreamy look. I like the composition here too.

I wonder where you got the panoramic inspiration from? ;-)

Your photography really improved in the last couple of months, IMHO. I am not too much into macro/nature shots and in this last couple of weeks you have not posted those as much. I'll be coming here more often from now on.

Good job on the post processing, it looks really good.

I like this one best out of the other golf shots. The wide open space, the man on the left waiting for the other to make the drive. I think this one captures golf. Good stuff.

It's nice to see someone else likes to add some extra saturation now and then :)
