Dipping back into my archives again. To begin with, this wasn't a bad shot, but nothing special. Noticing the color contrast, I decided to try a channels extraction; and sure enough, contrast!
I also did some very simple burning around the edges to produce a true black background. The background was almost entirely black but had a few little nuances here and there. The result looks semi-studio like, but doesn't loose it's natural quality.
I thought about cropping to a square, but an of-center look works slightly better compositionally. You can see more detail in the square version, but the composition is less interesting.

I love the contrast and patterns! the square one is less interesting to look at, even if it has more detail. you get quite a lot of that as is. it's beautiful.
