Today I visit a summer camp near the Wyoming/South Dakota border that I used to attend to see some old friends. Then it's on to my home town of Spearfish, SD tonight.
This is another shot from Bryce Canyon with perhaps a more interesting subject...or maybe not, but at least it's different. Used the polerizer again.
To answer yesterday's question: The light transmission is cut by about half (I think) with the polerizer, but the -1 exp bias has very little to do with the brightness level, as it will just expose -1 below whatever the camera meters. ISO100, f/8, and 1/50sec is not a very bright subject (keep in mind the -exp bias), even when you do double the light. Remember this was early morning and not mid-day sun. I used the -1 exposure bias so the camera would not overexpose the clouds, blowing out the highlights which I did with today's as well.
Site note: I doubt many of you will even care, but I fixed a bug in the code that prevented backwards navigation for today's photo since there was no blog posts over the weekend.

If this is what the polarizer does, I love it. The quality of the light changes and the colour is so rich. Excellent perspective looking up the tree.

Ryan, just discovered The Lab and, tried to post a comment but couldn't, so I don't know if there's a glitch or something. Just though to let you know. Oh, and love the idea and look forward to seeing what you post there.

Great composition, and great detail in the wood dirt and clouds. I wish there was a little more light on the stump, but its still a wonderful photograph ;)

I like the whole shot. The polarized clouds, the statuesque trees, and the absolutely incredible, soft lighting. Really nice composition and pleasing foto. Great job, Ryan!

Excelent exposure control. I'll need to re-read your explanation and try to digest it. Great shot!

Great photograph. The perspective gives a sense of boldness to the wood, while keeping the beautiful sky. Good lighting, almost like a gigantic fill flash.
