Now in Pierre (pronounced "peer", by us South Dakota natives), the capitol of South Dakota. Today we go as far as Sioux Falls (SD).

This is a photo of Roughlock Falls, in Spearfish Canyon. I grew up about 3 miles outside of Spearfish, so it was fun seeing my hometown again. I wouldn't want to live there again, but there is always something special about hometowns.

It was pretty dark, but I wanted to get some longer exposures anyways. No tripod for this one, just set the camera on the railing and held my breath. If I would have remembered my tripod, I would have taken a longer exposure (with a smaller aperture) and the leaves on the right and left would be more in focus.

You can't really get a feel for the size of the falls from the picture, but I would say the drop is around 20 or 30 feet, even though it may look a bit smaller in the picture.

This is a gorgeous scene; I think you've done it just perfectly without the tripod. If it was all razor sharp it might look less real.

Really nice. Very peaceful. This is one of those photos that you can put on a lot of websites or postcards. I'd have to say the drop looks like 15 feet instead of 25...Good shutter too.

Perfect! Nice effect - just goes to show you don't need a tripod to get a great long exposure shot. Well done.

It looks like a picture taken in Costa Rica or something... Did you have the chance to go in? It looks pretty refreshing.

I like the soft falls a lot - I think 1/4 sec wasn't a bad choice. Really neat composition.

Gorgeous... I love the cascade of the water in this shot almost in slo-mo. This I'd happily buy as a poster.
