This is another shot from the macro lense in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Now that I stand back and look at it, I wish the background flower wasn't cropped.
The non-photogeeks can stop reading now...
Canon has released a slew of new camras earlier this week (not sure if it was yesterday or Monday). Most of them were point and shoot, but 2 dSLR announcements. The biggest and most anticipated announcement, as I'm sure most of you know by now, is the EOS 5D, a 12.8MP, full-frame, 3fps SLR. As I understand it, the 5D is aimed more at pro's who want the full-frame sensor (previously only available on the 1Ds Mk II, Canon's $8,000 top pro model) especially for those who have a significant investment in expensive wide-angle "L" glass.
I very much doubt whether the 5D will cut into the 20D market much, and 5D buyers who would have bought the 20D should (price permitting) have been using one of the higher end dSLR's anyway. So the 5D is basically a cheaper and lighter alternative to the very expensive (and bulky) top model(s). The 5D is especially great for landscape and architecture, but also for weddings where high resolution is a major plus.
I won't bother with more analysis here as the internet is buzzing with it. Personally, I'm glad I got the 20D (ok, so it's sill in the mail...small detail) and don't see myself with a 5D in the near future...or even the not-so-near future. The 20D even has a few things over the 5D, such as 5fps/3fps and a faster flash sync. The focusing system of the 5D is slightly improved but not a whole lot better than the 20D, and at a price tag almost 3 times that of the 20D? Another way to look at it is it's less than half the the price of the 1Ds Mk II. :)

I'm of the same opinion with regard to the 5D vs. 20D - while I'd love to own one, it's had a few features pared out of it, and seems disproportionately more expensive than the 20D. Yes, it has full frame, which is killer, but it doesn't even sport environmental seals like the 1Ds... at that price, I'd expect a little more, and would still go for the 20D any day. Of course, when I'm rich I'll sing a different song!
The saturation in this image is wonderful; I can appreciate your opinion about the crop, but if the whole flower were in frame, it might throw the balance off the one in the forefront. I think it adds interest being as it is...

I like the depth, with the sharp one in front and the unsharp one in the back.

Vibrant colours! Nice DoF. Sorry cos I have not paying a visit for quite some time. I miss your photos. ;p
Agree too with the 5D - 20D comparison. Both are good cameras that I still can't afford. Not in near future. You already ordered a 20D? Oh, when will it arrive?

yea, i got to agree with you on the newest 5D. it's just too expensive. the only main advantage i see over 20D is the full frame feature which is by now, the cheapest model to offer the feature. 20D should do the job well now i guess. Give it another few years and full frame dSLR would be more affordable by then.
