The city of Phoenix is named after a fabled Arabian bird who burned itself to death and emerged from it's own ashes every 500 years.
Palm's are not native to the desert, but they love warm climates. It's amazing what will grow in the desert with a little water. This was shot from the top of the same 9th story parking garage as yesterday's photo. This is a northern view (the previous Phoenix skyline photos have faced either south or east). This view is pretty representative of the vegitation in Phoenix (at least in the urban areas). Once outside the city the landscape becomes a lot more desolate. To the north, saguaros are quite common, but to the south of the city (where we live) there isn't much of anything except the occasional sage brush.
The lighting isn't all that great, and I guess I forgot I was on ISO-800, but It will have to do for today. (The common photobloggers' problem of deciding whether to not post anything or post a photo of significantly less quality).
My aplogies for not posting an image yesterday. I usually don't skip a post on weekdays (I don't usually skip at all, but especially on a weekday).

I like how I can follow the road all the way into the city.

Really enjoyable shot. Of course this was before the guards in white shirts drove us evil camera people away.
Nice job on this shot - very well done. The old kit lens isn't so bad!

I like the way the road draws ones' eye into the photo. (Like Chantal said...didn't read that comment until just now.) Really interesting landscape. :-)

I like the lighting. I bet this would look cool at night with a nice long exposure. . .

Very cool shot. Almost looks like a miniature shot.

Good representation of Phoenix with palms adding color across miles of desert, ever-present mountains in the background and the
familiar skyline.
I like the shadows, too.

I was going to suggest that maybe it needs a bit of sharpening, but then saw your ISO 800 explanation. Good shot, nonetheless, showing a good eye to capture the gently flowing lines that are present in everyday scenes. I like your perspective and composition very much.

Really great shot and post-processing. Looks like a video game landscape or simulated life.
