This is another from the brush fire in the southern valley last week. I thought this would be an appropriate image for Independence Day. (US) Today, I also celebrate my independence from summer classes, as yesterday was my last day!

If you look closely you can see an American flag in the lower left corner of the image. If it wasn't for the flag (and this being Independence Day), I might have cropped a bit more off the bottom.

Happy 4th!

I too would have missed the flag so I'm glad you pointed it out. The splendor of the sun mixed with the smoke pulls the eye. Gorgeous colors from such devastation.

I'm surprised that you even saw the flag, it's hiding pretty well down there.

I love the colors with this one.

Awesome! Hey it's been a long time Ryan, somehow your feed got lost. I love how the smoke gives some interesting clouding to the sunset (rise?). Very cool.

Hi Ryan, I immediately opened the info on this image...having seen these skies recently in Northern CA, I assumed you lived close by. Bizarre yet spectacular, especially for photographers. A very dramatic capture of these times.

What a perfect way to frame the sun! I think the exposure and the colors are dynamic. You have a real knack for this kind of image.
